sorry for the bad pics but I am ready to remove the engine and trans to my 63 and have everything detatched, except this cable, which I think is the PUSH BUTTON SHIFTER CABLE???? Or am I mistaken.

In any case, it runs into the fire wall and this input on the auto trans.

How do I disconect it, under the dash or does it some how come detatched here?

Thanks

remove the 5-6 bolts an theres a lil slide pin type connector you have to hold push an pull it comes apart fairly easy just dont forget to loosen the adjusting area of the cable!!

cable release

hemiitis posted the right deal. DO not take off alum housing unless desperate. Take off plug and push up to release clip. However the factory book really doesnt help give a clear picture of what you are facing, when you have never seen inside. Note the clip tang you have to push up.
I enclose some photos I took to describe to another person once.

I agree, but sometimes they just don't want to come out. If you take the housing off you will probably have a difficult time finding the little gasket that seals the housing. Pat Blais Transmission makes a lot of parts for these older TQflites and he may have them or you can make one out of gasket stock. Pat has a store on EBay. Do not use sealer on any trans gaskets. Let us know if you need help adjusting it when its back together.

Gaskets are easy.

Also, when you remove the allen plug, some trans fluid WILL come out.Let it drain for a while because when your fishin' for the spring clip, fluid will run down the screwdriver and get your hand full of fluid:tongue:You can see the spring clip in the above picture, you are pushing that straight part of the clip {the end by his middle finger}UP and that will release the cable and cable housing:headbang:

Thanks for the help. Its greatly appreciated. Engine is on its way to be rebuilt and trans is sitting in the shop to be done as well.

Also, UNLESS you guys thinks its an issue, I am using the trans as a core and trade in on a new trans thats been rebuilt and has a warranty.

This car had not run in 20 plus years. So I just decided it all needed to be redone. And since my post I have decided to just detune a brand new 500 stroker I have sitting here that is currently at approx 625-650 HP. It will need a different cam and springs according to the engine builder andmaybe a dual plane manifold, so it can live on the street better. I dont know what the HP wil be when detuned.

will a stock trans handle the larger HP? I was going to have the trans guy rebuild the original trans?

THIS IS NOW T EMOTOR THATS GOING INTO THE VERT.

A stock unit can handle quite a bit,but if your lookin to turn up the wick a bit there are several "upgrades" that become needed like a billet drum and abetter than stock planetaries:dink:The "right" converter is so hard to find.
