Hi Guys, I had the exhaust side pushrod pop out of place on me I must not of had the adjuster nut torqued properly my question is do you think their could be any other damage to the motor, like bent rod or busted ring? by not haveing the exhaust valve open, It shut off on me when i pushed the clutch in at low rpm....let me know thanks o it is a 383 bb engine

only thing i can think of is the corresponding lifter might have popped out too. wouldnt be any damage,,,just taking off the intake manifold ...putting it back in and reassembly.....then again it might NOT have popped out...but youll have to find that out.

You may have had a lifter collapse creating too much clearance between the rocker arm and push rod or you just didn't have it adjusted tight enough. If that were the case, you would have heard a lot of chattering prior to it popping out. I would check the lifter, check the height of the length of the push rod and make sure the valve spring is not broken. Maybe that push rod is an odd ball and too short. If all parts check out in spec than reassemble and adjust the clearance with that cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke both valves will be closed. Then adjust them with the engine running.

I don't think you would have damaged anything at idle speed or even slightly above. You can run a compression test on that cylinder after you get the valve train sorted out to be certain.

I am assuming you arent running a stock rocker setup as the factory shaft mounted rockers are not adjustable. Inspect the threads on the adjuster to make sure that while it was working itself loose it didnt damage the threads. You can check the pushrod to see if it is bent by rolling it on a flat CLEAN smooth surface. If it rolls smoothly it is good, if it doesnt roll smoothly you will need to replace it. Pull the intake off and inspect the lifter to make sure the pushrod hopping around in there didnt damage the cup at all and check to make sure it isnt collapsed. Again, any sign of damage just do yourself a favor and replace it! If everything checks out ok reassemble it all and do a compression check to make sure the valve isnt bent, double tap the torque on that nut and you should be good to go! Let us know what you find!

when Mine "popped" out it was the cam lobe that was worn.....
