Q: What's better - 15x8 steel 28 lb. wheel or 15x7 aluminum 18 lb. wheel?

Which is better for handling, accel., braking...

The 15 x 7 aluminum wheels have 40 lbs. less unsprung weight, total.

The steel wheels have the extra inch on the outside for a wider stance.

Tires would be 255/60/15 Radial T/A on either.

Opinions?

Less unsprung weight wins every time. That tire would be fine for either size wheel.

im not a fan a wide tyres on narrow rim they tend to float a bit .if you have them on the car push it side to side and look how it sways
had a problem with a mustang once , the guy was say it swayed on highway, he bought the car like that and we but flush tires and the problem went away , can't remember how much bigger they were though.i would google what tires size is best for 7 inch wheels or 8
and go from there

BFG recommends a 7" - 9" wide wheel for that tire size. If I were buying wheels, then I'd buy 8's.

So you are ok with adding 40 pounds of weight?

what kind of power you have and what kind of driving your doing, for me I would go light and a narrower tire that fits the rim flush

Some of my post was left off and it was meant as a reply to 67belvedere/225. FBBO was having some problems earlier. Anyway, my post was intended to state that since BFG recommends 7"-9" wheels, your 7-inch wheels will work. If you do have the option to buy, I'd recommend 8-inch aluminum. Sorry for the cryptic post.

See, I botched that one, too. ****. Here...

Gotcha.
I have a set of 15x7 forged 80 Cordoba wheels and a set of 15x8 5 slot Lil Red Express wheels.
Buying other wheels is out of the question.
I was thinking one set or the other...

Back in the day, I ran 15x7 Rallye wheels with 255s on them with no issues. Fit well!! Tried Super Coupe, 15x8 and the tire fit a little better but couldn't 'feel' any difference driving it.

RLEM1977 - time for a coffee break!

LOL. Yes, more coffee.

I'll share this. I have a 24 Hours of Lemons car - '78 Nova. Needed to keep it somewhat stock to avoid points docking. Non-factory aluminum wheels get you points. So I replaced the factory steel 15x6 wheels with Cragar Soft 8 steel wheels in 17x9, with 245/45-17 Bridgestone RE-71R tires on them. Those things are so friggin' heavy! I should have eaten the points and put aluminum wheels on the car. The drives and handle fine, but changing those things is a nutbuster.

I think your 15x7s will look cool.
