I come from up that way and someone has always got some new rules... so for the day of inspection the car is made to pass and is put back the next.... about safety... most of these guys are lunatics and will out run the police and do all kinds of crazy stunts.... the ones that can't handle it are the children of lawmakers and want to look cool and fail being a poser then mum and dad try to take it away from the rest.... before this it was big tires and lift kits up north.... very controlling.... they wanted everything dnyno tested at one time.... people were junking year or two old cars and trucks because they wouldn't all pass... and it's French.

I can't imagine the G35 pictured doesn't have airbags and comes to a reasonable height/camber when driving. The only time it annoys me is when minitrucks 'lay frame' while going 60+ mph. Tears up road and does seem as if it has the potential to be dangerous.

As far as ill-handling, I had something like this pass me the other day...


I'm much more scared of something like this than a 3k lbs lowered import.

That stuff is illegal here in MD too. Im a state inspector and would fail that crap in a second. Minor mods are allowed, but not the extreme.

I wish I had a picture of my' 67 D500 loaded with fire wood pulling a trailer and dozer... barely had power to climb the Maine hills in double low then to about 80 at the bottom coming to a crawl at the next hill.... the truck empty weight was 10,000 on the scales with out the 6000 pound dozer and 3000 pound trailer it weighed 26,000 sort to ramble.. that's a 2bbl 318 5sp with a Eaton split rear... OGODE spelled out across the hood in factory letters.... but the feel of invincibility.... 55 mph on the highway everybody passed it on the farm nothing could match it...

Here's a list of current laws down here in the U.S. Notice that a lot of states have maximum height restrictions but no minimum. Some states have no restrictions, and others allow very little or no modification. I see illegal height cars around here all the time but the cops don't seem to know the code or don't care.

only prob is the law dosnt seem to address the adjustable air bag susp.if they drive into inspection at a good ride height then they just lower it after they leave.does it say anything about that in the new laws up there?

On the serious side the government can make a law that states all cars on the road have to be factory stock dimensions for that model year... I have all my oem stuff.. no problem... but for those who have altered camber and toe or wheel bases non matching drive train... no emissions. Except for '29 and older original body cars this kind of thing is bad news....

The main problem with these youngsters lowering their cars is that when they hit a dip in the road, they'll bottom out and loose control. Main reason that Maryland will pull them off the road, right there, on the spot.

The lifted trucks use to have a bumper height restriction. Don't know what happened there but they aren't being enforced lately.

About a year ago a kid in a slammed pos Honda blew by me on a local road. He was ok until he got to the railroad crossing, then it was a shower of sparks and chunks of plastic all over the place. So much for ground effects.:sFun_doh2:

Who is this "government" person? I thought WE were the government. Or at least Thomas Jefferson thought we should be(him and his buddies). Like someone said, it's going to be like firearms soon. We are being trained very well. 8 year old kid makes a gun shape with his hand and says "BANG." Obvious killer, right? Good thing they expelled him and gave him a police record. I feel much safer.

This new law is probably the result of some city council person being inconvenienced by being behind a "low rider." Hey, they are not my thing(and neither are council people). Or huge lifted trucks. But I admire the efforts(money) that went into a lot of them. And that city council person might one day be inconvenienced by the smell of race gas if he/she is ever at a stop light next to me. So what gets outlawed then? Race gas? Or old cars that are killing the planet(yeah, and so is my lawn mower….BTW, this is me being a smartass, for those unfamiliar). I always cringe when I hear about something ELSE our "government" has newly outlawed.

I don't have a Sublime colored car. I think they should be outlawed. I think they confuse the geese that no longer migrate and crap all over the parks in Denver. So if you have one, you should sell it to me real cheap since it will soon be outlawed and crushed anyway. And those winged cars are an obvious hazard to the spotted owl and Monarch butterfly. And pigeons. So yes, I will take those global climate killers off your hands too. And because I am a nice guy, I won't even charge you to take them from you. Even if it is a Sublime winged car. Call me...

If it affects the vehicle dynamics, as in stability and handling...heck yeah take it off the road. Vehicles are built to meet performance and safety standards that have been set forth by years of research & development, as well as and past experience. Modifying them to the point of drastically reducing and/or modifying those standards is just endangering the driver & passengers, as well everyone else around them. Funny, most of us muscle car guys strive to make our old cars handle, brake, and perform better. Those folks trash the ride and any kind of performance for the look. Clowns!
