I bought a reprinted 63 factory service manual for my 63 Polara 500. My car has had a 413 put in it, but I was suprised when the factory manual only covered v8 engines up to a 361? I am pretty sure the Polara could have been bought with a 383 2 barrel or 383 4 barrel?

Where would I find a service manual or supplement that covers the 413 or are there any good books on these motors?

Thanks!

Most 63 books list the 383 with 330hp as the top eng for the 63 Dodge and Plymouths as many dont list the 426 Max Wedge engines. If yours is a 413 someone must have put it in over the years as the Dodges did not have a 413 in them in 63. But Chryslers had the standard 413's in 63 so I would think any Chrysler service manual should have what you need on the 413 eng. I know I bought a supplement book off ebay thats a copy I am sure of the book they gave you when you bought a 426 Max Wedge in 63 with all the info on the 426 Max Wedge. I would think they did the same for the 413 Maxies in 62 but being it was more of a mid year option they may have just released the 413 Maxie info in 62 in a TSB. Ron

I have noticed the same, no 413 listing. I have the Chrysler service manual for 1962 and it only covers to 361. Same with Motor's auto manuals. No 413 info. Ron might be on to something with those being later installations.
The "Do it yourself" books out there on building big blocks have bits and pieces. I haven't found any dedicated strictly to 413.

Yes, as Ron said the larger 426 Max Wedge was a supplemental book. Guy that sold me my '63 service manual had one but it wasn't for sale. :(

No 413's in 1963 for B bodies.

Where would I find other numbers on the block that would let me identify which engine I actually have? The owner said when he changed the oil he saw a cast date of 62 on it, but it has headers and he could not read anything else? The numbers on the pad in top front of block are a 41 by itself and a 1123 separate, I don't see the letter for the date. If it is there it is not legible. Might be an I or a T?

Google is your friend!

A "T" in front of "41" would be a 1963.

Here's a pic of the I'D pad on a '63 413 that I have. There wasn't a letter "I" used for any years, in front of the engine size stamping. So you probably have a "T". As far as casting numbers on the side of the block, the #2205697 was used for several years after 1962. Even the 426 wedge used this block in 1964, as listed in the "moparts link". The research is half the fun of owning these cars. Lots of history!

Thanks, now that I see your stamping I can tell mine is a T. But no HP stamping :sad7:

Owner said he was told it was a heavy duty block, does that mean anything? The only stamping I have on the pad is T 41 and 1123

So if a 413 was not available in a Polara 500 in 63 I wonder where they got the motor from? I sent to the Chrysler Museum to have them send me the build data for this car so I will really know what came with it and what was added afterwards.

Not having a HP isn't a big deal. Mainly it's for internal parts, cam etc.

The engine might be from a Chrysler. Would be hard to tell exactly what vehicle. The block casting # might shed some light but they used them in a lot of applications.

Well you have a period correct engine anyway and I wouldn't turn it down. That's a good engine too!

Checking with the Chrysler Museum is a good move too. Keep us posted...
