Question About Tires And Rims?

[65 Plymouth Satellite 426]

I Bought 4 Cop Car Rims 15x7 And Had Them Stripped, Primered, And Painted To Match The Color Of My Car. I Would Like To Run A Pair Of M/T ET Radial Drag Slicks Size 2.75/60R15 On The Back. I Have Noticed Several Tire Companies Saying The 15x7 Rims Are Too Small For The Size I Want To Put On. The Quote Was For The 2.75/60's Needed At Least A 15x8 Rim Too Fit Properly 7.50 To 9.50 Wide Rims. Any Suggestions Or Conversation? Or Go To The 2.55/60R15's?

i run the 255 60s myself and works good. The 7 inch rim on a 275 will bow out the sidewalls and it wont look as good. As far as it not working on a 7inch, im sure u could but theres a reason for tire mfg to recommend the 8 inch rim, id follow their suggestion. Just my 2 cents thoughts here, hope it helps u.

Hey Terry, Bob here; I just responded to your PM to me and then read this thread that you just started--wasn't aware that you're mounting M/T Radial Drag Slicks--changes my opinion if you're going to the track with these. If traction is your main concern, the 7" rim width may compromise the tires footprint under acceleration. I'll welcome the opinion of others. Best to you; Bob

rim width is important on radials.if the wheel is too narrow it will actually pull up the outter edges of the tread,making a smaller foot print.the biggest problem is you will loose any integrity of the sidewall since it is so rounded compared to what it was designed for.you can run it that way,you will just have less traction compared to correct wheel size.your handeling will also be diminished a lot.
