Question on relay location

Ok, yeah, I can never remember this. Install the relay close to the power source or to the item you are powering I.E. fuel pump,fans.lamps ?
 
Use of relays saves on wiring costs as smaller gauge cables can be run from switches to controlled units (relays in this case) where a larger gauge from power source to relay and on to load can be as short as possible. In many cases the OEM wiring can be used to trigger the relay thus taking the electrical load off the switch and eliminating any resistance in said switch.
Relay should be close to load.
