i just bought a 69 satellite that has the origional 318 in it with 69-70 340 heads on it, a holley intake, holley 650 carb and long tube headers.. anyway it needs tuned up and gone over becouse it has sat in a garage for years.. my question to you guy;s is what kinda poweer can i expect from it. i had a 68 coronet with a stock 318 2bbl in it and that car was slow as death.. should i find a 360 for it, or will this built 318 be plenty.. i aint expecting it to be a power house, just want it to be able to get out of it's own way and be able to lite up the tires..

thanks for any help in advance..

i ment what kinda power should i expect from that engine as it is.. all i will ad is electronic ignition and an msd box.. they are rated at 230hp stock and put a woping 150hp to the tires. could i expect 300hp out of the engine, or am i dreaming??

i would think to get 300 hp you would have to put in a diff cam and maybe a little higher compression pistons.a stock 318 i think is only rated at 195 hp.

In that case maybe somebody else can help. I have a 71 charger with original 318. It has 318 heads, holley 600cfm, weiand dual plane, and long tube headers. I have wondered how much power that setup makes myself, but I think 300hp is an expectable number

yes 300 hp could be an expectable goal with maybe a little work done on the heads.you can usually find a shop to do that for a reasonable price.

i'd be happy with that, the 340 heads should be a big help.. hows your charger run??

Well the original motor has 300,000 miles on it and its never been pulled. So it needs to be rebuilt because its kinda low on compression. But overall it feels like it has a fair amount of power on the low range. Can make the tires squeel from a dead stop. I hope to do a rebuild in the near future and get 400hp because right now the 318 doesn't really have enough power to get my heavy charger really moving lol

well 300k will make an engine lazy...lol

anyway i geuss i'll just get it running and see how she does, i'll have to redo the feul system cause it has sat in a garage for many years and i wanna put an electronic dizzy in it with an msd box cause i have it. also i'll need to get belts, hoses and probly a radiator...

Yeah I'm thinking about switching over to electronc dist. to. Goodluck with everything and let us know how it goes

Yes, you can get decent power out of a 318. Just don't kill your cylinder pressure with the wrong cam and head combo.

will the 340 heads help compression, they are 69-70 heads. also what cam would you reconmend, i wanna get one...
