As some of you know I recently found a job after being laid off since February. So far the job is a breeze and the pay is excellent and today I got a chance to talk with the owner of the company a little more. While talking to him he commented on my vacation time....vacation time, hell I just started working! He asked how long I had been in the work force.. like since I was 16 years old I said. He went on to say that he didn't feel it was right that that I should have to loose all I had worked for just because of the economy and then went on to tell me that my vacation time would be pro rated based on my age and the years of service I had given to the employers I had worked for during those 40some years. So, as of July 25th I will have 3 weeks vacation coming.....!!!!! I almost fell over when he said that and then he went on to tell me that if I worked the whole year with out missing a day he would pay me a 6 day pay at double time as a bonus at years end. Plus what the company pays as a year end bonus on top of that. Its about the easiest job I ever had. I come home clean, no more beating myself up working on machinery and with my knees being the way thay are its a God send. To anyone still looking for a job...don't quit looking, they are out there and every once in a while a diamond in the rough shows up.

Great, it's rare that someone finds a job in this economy and exceptionaly one that actually cares for their employees glad to hear of your good fortune. Best of luck to you and yours.

Congrats on it all... It sounds like a really nice guy!

Sounds like a nice guy and a smart business man to me.

Why? I would hope that you are now more determined than ever to do an honest day's work for the guy and do right by him, just as he did for you.

Nice when that actually happens. Cherish the job where the company actually gives a s**t...

aint it nice to work for someone that actually appreciates your efforts? i however am still looking for that. Congrats red... couldn't happen to a nicer or more deserving dude! nothing beats the feeling of appreciation!

Congrats on your well deserved job find, enjoy it, they are far & few in between to have a company that actually cares about the older employees, especially newer older employees, maybe the guy does it to keep the employees happy & working hard... Smart move, smart guy, sound like a great job & great place to work... I use to work for a great company for years as a Construction Consultant, Sub Contractor Coordinator & Facilities Mngr., 1st American Automotive Dealership Group, formerly the H.G. Automotive group, a family owned & opperated company originally in the S.F. East Bay Area of Calif., the company was very much like that, great owners, great people & staff to work with, unfortunately they went public & everything changed, cherish it, I know I did...

good for you buddy. i am willing to bet he already knew how qualified you were before he made the offers. obviously you filled a need in his company that was lacking and he is showing his appreciation. sharp operator. congrats red:headbang:

I think this is the only job I have ever had where there are days when I feel bad about taking the money...just don't tell him that!

How many employees are there? He sounds like someone that actually gives a hoot about their employees, that's rare! Congrats to ya!

Funny, but when I worked at the lab where I was surrounded by machinery and very cool high vacuum equipment, I often thought "and they pay me to do this".

I'm glad you reached Valhalla!

Congrats Red. I am glad you like it.

I use to think like that when I 1st became a Golf Pro "I really get paid to do this" ?? , now in this economy I'm not feeling it so much with either profession/occupation construction or golf, both are all but dead & burried....

good to hear you got a great job with a great employer.both are rare in this economy.
