What kind of race would you rather go to. A race that pays out big to win say $1000.00 or $1500.00 and pays back to the quarters. Or would you rather run for $500.00 or $800.00 and pay back to first or second round loser?

We ran at the Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs which the race is run by 422 Motorsports and got beat second round they paid out $100.00 which paid our entry fee. I know from previous years at Beaver Springs that even the first round runner up get's $100.00. However I think they only pay $500.00 to win.

I was runner up and only got $200.00. with 58 NSS cars that was a real joke, imo
1ST AND 2ND PLACE SHOULD HAVE BEEN $1000.00 & $500.00

That's bullcrap, 58 cars......................... wow!

I'm content racing for trophies right now , but if I was racing for money, I would at least want my entry fee for going a couple rounds.

they paid my entry fee and gave me an extra $100.00 for 2 time trial runs plus $200.00 for runner up. total bullshit.
traveled 400 miles for a trophy and $300.00.
58 NSS Cars and 7 rounds. i spent $250.00 alone on race fuel that day.dont even want to tell you my diesel costs to and from beaver springs, pa.

Pay to quarters. If you don't make it there you don't deserve anything. jmho

Not to hijack your thread but I just saw that Numidia Dragway is having a racers appreciation race this Sunday with big payouts. Not to far from Beaver Springs. Hoping the weather cooperates.

$3k to win Super, $2k to Win Pro, $1k to Win Street, $500 to win Motorcycle, Winners and Runner ups in each class run for an additional $2k to win, 1K R/U, and $250 semis.

I'm just thinking with the economy the way it is would it be better knowing that as long as you make first round you at least get you money back. No one is doing this for the money as we all know. But even getting your entry back you still have at least $100.00 in race fuel, plus fuel getting to the track plus food and if you don't have a motorhome or a sleeper in the trailer then you have hotel. Man it really ad's up. I know one of the reasons why short track racing always has been so popular is because the racers get paid to start the race even if they finish last.
If you think about it 422 Motorsports would have taken in 5800 dollars from the racers and they would have paid it all out + 200.00 to runner up and 500.00 to the winner.

Where I'm going with all this is would more cars show up to these events if they know they're going to get something? OR would less cars show up because they know if they win they're only going to get $500.00?

I've found that less cars show up with the smaller payout. My best friend owns and operates our local track and he puts on several different races throughout the year that are big payout races and those are ALWAYS the ones that pack the house with cars. All of his purses are guaranteed, and the payouts definitely doesn't come from racers entries. 90% of the payout is from spectators and concessions, and spectators don't show unless there is a big car count. What he has done to offset the economy is keep his payouts the same, but lowered the entry fee for the racers. If that sounds crazy, it is! But like I said, more cars = more spectators. He has been operating the track for something like 15-20 years and has one of the best if not THE best racing environments I have ever been to. Just my .02... :D

. I don't disagree with what you're saying, especially if the entry is reasonable and the pay out is also reasonable. Personally I think $500.00 to win is too thin. $800.00 - $1000.00 would be more in line.
I posed the question wondering what everyone thought. Some promoters pay second round loser half of the entry, which isn't too bad either. Thrust me I am not one for re distribution of wealth! How ever does make it easier to pay the 100.00 entry knowing that barring any issues you'll at least get some or all of it back.

What is the entry fee for the Racers at your buddy’s track?

I'll tell you what else packs the stands are low gate fees. Actually a couple of years ago Norwalk ran a deal where they had free general admission entry for spectators, I think it was a Night Under Fire type deal. Anyhow Bader felt that he wanted get butts in the seats that either have never been to a race or have not been to one in years. He felt that he would make it up in food. Which I never did hear how he did money wise
But they had to close down Rt. 20 and 18, which are US routs because there were so many people. They don't even have that issue when NHRA is there.
Here is Beaver Springs gate fees.

SPECTATOR FEES:
Friday IHRA
Street Races
Adult each $5.00 $10.00
Carload (5) $10.00 $25.00
11 yr. under No Charge No Charge

You have to make it cheap to get the family there.

Friday nights are $10 to race or watch, with one Friday a month being Street Car races... same entry and winner gets a trophy and $100, and at the end of the season the top 16 in points run off for $1000.

Every Saturday except the last they have a bracket and Super Pro program, but I'll have to double check what their payouts/ entries are.

They also run a couple special "Grudge Wars" events during the season where they bring in some big name guys (Tim Lynch and Tony Johnson raced this spring) and have IHRA Iron Man trophies for the winners of all classes, as well the index classes get bumped up to $125 entry with
$5000.00 to win
$1000.00 R/U
$300.00 Semi's
$100.00 1/4

There will be another of these events coming either next month or Oct I believe.

The big program (www.bountyrace.com) is the last Saturday of every month and is as follows:

$20 Spectator

Pro Street
$100 entry
$1,500 to win
$500.00 runner up
$250.00 semi's
GUARANTEED MONEY

7.0 Index
$65 Entry
$1000.00 win
$300.00 r/u
$100. for semi's
Free entry for 1/4's if 16 car field

6.0 Index
$65 Entry
$1000.00 win
$300.00 r/u
$100. for semi's
Free entry for 1/4's if 16 car field

There are also two other classes that run at the end of the month, but I'm not positive on the breakdowns for payouts/ entry fees.
