I went to get a glass of milk Saturday night before going to bed, and discovered that once again my kids had drunk all but a few drops out of the jug. It was just after midnight, which normally would tick me off, but with a clean, shiny, tuned-up Roadrunner sitting in the driveway now, I grabbed my keys, told Mrs. Bruzilla I had to go get more milk for breakfast tomorrow, and headed for Blanding Blvd, the road I used to cruise on back in the day.

I drove down to Youngerman Circle, which was my old turnaround point, and saw a bunch of imports and two Mustangs sitting in the parking lot. I did a slow cruise past them, and the guys in the Mustangs fired up and came after me. We went through several lights, and I smoked one while the other smoked me, then we stopped at a K-Mart parking lot to chat.

I asked them why none of the import guys came out, and they told me those guys never race. They just come out and sit in the parking lot and BS for hours, then go home. Sure wasn't like the old days when everyone was running.

I stopped to get the milk I was supposed to get and headed home, and happened upon two Hondas sitting at a red light who looked like they were up to a challenge. I got into the open lane, revved up, and.... nothing. I pulled out and they dropped way back behind me the rest of the way up the road. Pretty sad sight to see... Saturday night cruisers who didn't want to make a late-night run of things.

But it did feel good to get out there and run those Mustangs. :)

Lol yea it does feal good I remember raising out my Lincoln mark vii and a mustang pulling up beside me and blowing his doors off then the vette wasteing me at the next light then the cop being really angry at the guy in the vette Shaking his fist at him 1/4 mile down the road as I eased by

It used to be about 50 or of us would get together at various parking lots starting about 9:00, and we would tweak and compare notes until 11:00 when the traffic died down and the cops changed shifts, then we would go hit the pavement and street race and no one stayed in the parking lots.

What I saw Saturday was a lot of bench racing and not much street racing, but again... what little there was was a lot of fun.

i used to love street racing back in the day.got way too serious here in vegas about 10 or 12 years ago and i got out of it.(people carying guns and such, bad element)maybe when i finnish my current project i will go see if anything is out there.i have most of my fun at the track but would be nice if i could drive to some stuff.

Used to do a lot of street racing around Everett back in the 70s. It's kind of like smoking, you can quit, but the urge never leaves. I got into a run with a guy in a 67 GTO on the way back from a car show last year. You never lose the feeling of a close race. It was pretty cool.:3gears:

Last couple street races I got into were in my truck.

Got into it with a 80ish Corvette that sounded built.

He put a fender on me, but I kept with him at his door up to about 85, then backed off.
I think it surprised him. Kinda surprised me too.

Passed a 303HP FWD Chevy at about 95 after he cut me off, then kept blocking me down a long gentle curve. Afer I got a clear shot, he couldn't keep up.

I did get into it on my Intruder 800 last year, against a Harley v rod.
Rolling start from about 35. Blew right by. That 800 would flat out haul *** 0-90.
I actually sandbagged a bit to about 60.

Man I could write a book on what was happening in Calif., Concord, Walnut Creek, Antioch, Alamo, Pleasanton, Dublin, Pittsburgh, Fairfield, Lodi, Elk Grove, Sacramento, Placerville, Shingle Springs, Diamond Springs, Cool, Auburn, Lincoln, Modesto, Napa, Sonoma, Orville, Georgetown, Garden Valley, Kelsey, Rhonert Park, L.A. Terminal Island & Long Beach along with many other places from 1975-1981, Bart, Jim, Robby, Bob, Rob, Roland, Rod, Mike, Danny, Tim {my brother}, Jeff "the beak", Scott, Eric, Rocco, Will & many, many others, we would seek out a challenge, sometimes for money, sometimes for just shits & giggles or bragging rights, we got "way to fast" for the street, most graduated to the track, pretty much exclusively, or got married, had kids & dropped out all together, the track was much, much safer environment, in all concerns... I still get the urge, but I remember all that I have to loose now too.... Long Live Eyncino Grande', Willow Pass Rd., Ignacio Valley Blvd., Clayton Rd., Treat Blvd., 10th St., Bucannon Rd., Antioch Dumps Rd. {not the best fo rd.'s}, Ball Cannery Rd., P.G.& E. & S.M.U.D. Guys on the Board, it's a look back from my lurid past...

Many different cars, some were back halved, some were tubbed & tinned street driven, some had lexan windows, some were trailered "race cars w/license plates", some were strictly street cars, but most all had slicks & suspension & usually mine all had multiple carbs, cross rams tunnel rams in-line 2x4bbl, 6bbl, N20 or Blowers, Injection or combos of them all, a 68 Charger R/T Green then Yellow 68 & red 69, 2x4bbls 440, then 513ci, then a Blown 2x4bbl 660cfm holley carbs 426ci MW, a 71 Vega Mustard colored SBC Brownfield alum. heads & a Smokey Ram & 72 Green BB LS7 V-8 Vega's, yellow 75 Monza LS7 injected BBC, a 67 Silver Camaro me & Jim, then a 68 Ice Blue Camaro N20 468ci/540ci Camaros, many 68-69-70-71 RR's of many different colors & engine combos, some 64-65 GTO's, 67-68 Firebirds, 71 & 72 455ci GS Buicks, cream colored 64 442 w/455ci N20 tubed tinned, 76 white/black RS & 78 Camaro Z28 heavily N20 equipped etc., even a 68 VW great ego popper, my step father Bob was a big time Pontiac guy, I learned allot from him, allot of them {my cars} were just primed "allot of times", if it didn't make it fast, I didn't care... I didn't mention the San Jose, Fremont, Milpidas, experiences I live off Tamoshatter Dr. {spelling?} off the Hostelers Exit off old 680 frwy, on Turret Dr. for a couple years & off Sierra Rd. by the Egg Ranch, while working at Target Masters & EDCO Construction Co., I was pretty much at the track only by then, I think anyway, just before Bayland/Fremont Raceway shut down for good... We probably crossed paths, if you were out there, we were pretty much unbeatable for a time, if someone beat one of the lessor guys, someone faster would step up to save the CONCORD BOY's honor...LOL.... 1978-1981 I spent allot of time at Univ. Of Oregon, Eugene, I would come down all the time thou, take out the one of my usually many cars & raise some hell....

sounds alot like my experience, didnt switch so many cars.stayed with the 68 mostly since it was so dam fast.we did alot of the same stuff, slow car challenges first time commers and moves up from there.towards the end i spent more time driving dirt track cars then street racing.only got back into street racing for a few years after i moved to vegas.(around 87)

In the late 70's, I had 5 Chargers at one time 68-70, I always had several cars at a time usually, I've had 13 RR's now, probably 10 Chargers, Demons & Dusters, that's all I did was spend money on my cars & race, hell you could buy them for $300-$1500 all day long, my Mom had a couple of my cars & one on my step fathers cars towed off once, she said clean up this stuff, or else & she meant it, one car had a complete disassembled High $$$ race engine in the trunk, the other had a complete 727tf race trans, linkage & converter in the trunk, we got them all back & most all the stuff, but it was a big freaken hassle, we listened to Mom after that, kept the garage clean & driveway clear & clean...LOL...
