I understand that the radiator support core in the 1971 Chargers is typically painted black on the forward facing (grille) side.

My question is what kind of black? Flat?

Dupli-Color has a nice low gloss black that looks somewhat flat. Any other suggestions?

And if anyone has a sample picture of their core support that would be great.

Thanks for the help.

Black out wasn't always done but lighter colors were...

Yes... not all colors had a blacked-out support, only the lighter colors

Not all but, all but black and the darkest shades of blue and green were not supposed to get painted. Some were and some light colors weren't.

There's another thread about this probably in the body section from a few weeks ago. I posted factory assembly line sheets I don't have on my phone that tells the story.

B5 gets black out, B7 Jamaican Blue does not get blackout..

For the most part. As with Mopars, there's always exceptions and errors. Plum crazy/Inviolet did not get blackout also.

Def be looking for that
As promised.

The first one looks like a B Body (70 RoadRunner) and the second is an A body. Interesting the A bodies have a longer list "Not" to be painted. Cost savings?

B body says "Paint with paint or fluid deadener" A body says just "fluid deadener". I am guessing it's thinned down undercoating. That's what it looks like color and texture wise but it isn't thick like undercoating is. It would have to be thinned to be sprayed out of a wand.
