My buddy bought a 65 Belvedere and it's at the body shop now. It has a radio antenna on the drivers fender. I didn't think Plymouth put the antenna on that side. Anybody know? It's definitely a factory made hole.
From what I have heard cars were shipped to the dealers without an antenna installed, this was due to the antennas being broken off while sitting in the lot. Once the car was sold the antenna was mounted where ever the customer wanted it. My 63 had two dealer installed holes on the rear quarters and none on the front fenders at all.
First brand-new car was a 65 Bel II that I ordered with an AM radio (yeah, I'm an old guy)--I was at the dealer upon its arrival and came in with the antenna mounted on the passenger fender. This is my 3rd 65 B-Body and they've all had the antenna mounted on the right fender.
my 65 bel. II has one on pass. side, top of rear quarter. looks like a chry. base. trim tag says am radio, don't look like there ever was one on right front fender from underneath.
The only possible explaination I could think of for this is possible the factory may have done this for an export right hand drive car??? If they ever did this maybe they mistakenly installed one of these fenders one the car and by the time it was caught (painted) they just went ahead and installed the antenna.
This is all simply a GUESS as I have no idea if a right had drive car would have had the antenna installed on the left side.
