I recently rewired my 1969 roadrunner. I used all m&h harnesses and thought I had the radio wired right but I started the car and came to the realization that I was wrong! Radio works with the key on but doesn't work with the car started. Can someone tell me if that sounds like the ignition or the connection???? Can someone show me a pic of the radio to harness connection? I can imagine hooking it up wrong and is there any connection that only comes on with the ACC and shuts off with the car started? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Why not hook the radio up the the fused radio wire from the fuse box. Two prong one opposite the other. Also make sure to ground strap is hooked up. Can not imagine trying to correct wiring or rewire a vehicle with out some kind of wiring diagram.

I actually purchased a large laminated wiring harness diagram from year one. I wired it according to the diagram and my radio is shutting off when I start the car. Could it be the ignition tumber? I appreçiate your help and sarcasm but I did it right... Just isn't working right. Radio was restored by joes right before putting it in

Ignition 1 or 2 on the switch? Ignnition 2 cuts power to all accessories while the strater cranks. If I had a 69 FSM would send you the wiring diagram for compairison. The ignition tumbler would have nothing to do with the electrical if the switch is hitting all required positions. You may want to check the ignition switch itself. Do the windshield wipers work with the car running? If so the ignition switch would be OK if not I would replace it and try again.

According to the wiring diagram (A), the radio power connector is directly connected to the switched side of the fuse panel (diagram B) via a red/tracer wire so there is no individual pin on the ignition switch that provides power just to the radio. The radio connection also branches out to supply power to the backup lights (white wire). Check to see if you have backup lights. The switched side of the fuse panel is fed from the ignition switch (black wire) and provides power to the fuses for the radio, heater fan, tach etc. The keys "on" position is the same position while running so it doesn't make a lot of sense. I can't think of anything that shuts off when the car is on/running. That's a good one. I guess just check for other things that don't work when the car is running as opposed to just "on".

You sure you don't have the orange mixed up with the red /trace wire? Orange is the light wire but could cause issue if you have the A01 light group package and its backwards.
