I went this route, kept the original radio untouched in the dash and installed the secret audio under the seat and use the remote. Upgraded to modern speakers in original speaker locations and it works like a gem!

I don't like where I mounted mine, but I ended up with a cheap Kenwood (KDC-BT555U) unit from Best Buy. It looks terrible under the dash and is just begging to be stolen. But, it has the Bluetooth option I wanted so I can answer my phone easily. I was hoping the remote was other than IR, so I could mount the head unit in the trunk... But alas, Infra Red it is. Anyway, it sounds good enough for $150.

I have worked in electronics for over 50 years and this is what I will be doing when I get my AM/FM 1969 Charger radio upgraded.

This is a link to the company that builds the electronics for conversion companies:

And this is a link to the companies that use the Aurora Design's products to convert your radio:

Check it out, there are many options available to add to your radio.

Very cool idea! Tuner, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB/MP3 are all a must for me... As are Amplifier (both front & rear) and Subwoofer pre-outs. I couln't care less about CD's, but I wonder if the electronic boards will allow adjustment of the bass, mid and treble. I'd like to see a video of an updated radio working.

BDL, I read through ALL of the developer's data on who they are and how their circuits function and they state that it provides all of the features and functions that we see in today's new automobiles plus four channel and sub base outputs. So the result would be that you would have your radio appearing as stock but having every one of the modern features that we know and use today.

The company that builds the circuitry for conversion, Aurora, claims on their web site that they primarily provide electronic equipment ( i.e. computers, radios and etc.) for the auto manufactures.

The second link that I included will take you to a list of authorized companies around the world that are doing the conversions using Aurora's circuitry.

Here is a link to several video demos of how the upgrade works. Some are just the AM/FM upgrade and others demo the aux in and bluetooth. Check them out.

i just sent (about 2-3 weeks ago) 2 66 EL radios of to http://www.turnswitch.com/ for a conversion. My car came with 2 so i sent it off to them and said use whatever they need from either or both radios. They are going to check to see if the EL works and if it does. They've let me know it will work when i get it back. If it doesnt they'll outfit with a light that comes on when the radio is turned on. I am going with the 4 rca speaker outputs, sub output, aux input and bluetooth. It's not cheap proposition. but i keep the dash of my 66 Charger intact. I am not a fan of the extra radios under the dash or in the glove box.

I'm going with a pair JL Audio marine speakers and a 2 channel jl audio amp. I am getting the car prewired while the interior is out to be able to add a sub and an extra pair of speakers. in the event i want to add them down the line.

good luck with your decision.
