I decided to install my stroked 500 into a different Mopar because this one is so rare(I was going to put it in this 62 because it is so solid but don`t want to ruin such a rare car)Needs restored but VERY, very solid and complete. It IS a numbers matching car loaded with a big block high performance engine(HP is stamped on the pad under the distributor),buckets, console POWER WINDOWS, sure grip rear end, power steering and brakes. Starts and sounds good. Reverse slips. Interior is toast BUT complete minus carpet. The seats, carpet, console and door panels out so you can see how excellent and solid the floors are. There is a little body damage here and there. This is a SUPER rare car and worth a ton of money it it is restored as it is one of the first desirable Mopars ever built!!!!! I can`t stress how solid this car is. It needs 2 back lights (the old ones are broken but I still have them), You will be hard pressed to find a more solid car than this one is. Even the quarter extensions( inside and behind the quarters) are rust free as is the rockers, trunk, floors, cowl, inner rockers, hood ,doors, wheel tubs well you get the idea. You will save thousands of dollars because of how solid she is!!!!!! 6,500 or trade. Try to find another one! 319-961-9459 P.s. I am looking for something for my 500 stroked big block.....

Wow, that does look like a rare first year B-body! Early muscle! Also first year for the Fratzog, they even put them on the rear quarters!

Anyone? I bought it to put my 500 into but I thought perhaps I shouldn`t do that to such a rare numbers matching high performance car. I will trade it as well.

A 361 wasn't really consider muh of a high performance engine. Was it even available in a 4 barrel? I know in 65-66 it was a 2 barrel only.

In 1959 the 361 was available in the DeSoto Adventurer with two 4bbl carburetors, rated at 355hp. I would say it was a high performance engine.

It`s still Stamped "hp" on the block. Hp is hp on ANY mopar engine. Yes it is still considered a high performance car......

I understand that. I guess my question is does anyone know the specs on a 1962 HP 361, or is everyone guessing or talking out their *** because it has an HP stamping. Was it 10.5 comp? 4 barrel? 2-4 barrel? Remember, 1962 was the beginning of the 413s both regular HP and Max Wedges. I don't EVER remember hearing anything about an HP 361 getting any kudos.

The OP is trying to decide if he should put HIS engine in this cool old car or if it is worth something to someone as it is originally? Just SAYING it is something special as a 361 HP and getting anyone to step up and pay anything extra for it are likely two different stories. Unless one of you guys that THINK it is something special are BUYERS for it, then I will stop commenting. Any buyers or just people that are willing to comment on how others should spend THEIR money?

Thanks 69! You are right. I just don`t want to do the wrong thing to a neat old car.I think it is a special car because it is the top of the line car being a polara 500 and it is very solid and has power windows,it`s a 2 door and big block that runs. I see ROLLERS go for 6 grand and mine RUNS for 5 grand so to "step up" and pay 5 grand is a deal no matter what. If my nice 63 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door gets here from Cali before this sells, I will probably take a bunch of parts off from it for my 63 and then put my 500 in it HEH-HEH.

Here is the 1962 361 specs. This is from Allpar.
361 9.0 265@4,400 380@2400 Stromberg 2-bbl standard, Newport+880 Chrysler
361 9.0 305@4,800
395@2800 4-barrel Dodge; Sport Fury

not to hijack this post, but I have a 361 complete engine minus the intake that came out of my old 62 Polara 500..if anyone needs it..

pretty good job of hijacking for not hijacking there marcusedell

Still have it. Make offer. If I still have it Sunday, I am taking it to Mopars on the Mississippi. Then if it don`t sell, I will put my stroker in it and leave it looking just like it is lol.

Don't knock the 361 after I blew up my 383 I put a 361 (1961 chrysler) in my 71 cuda (torker intake holley 750 and headers). That car was very quick and loved high rpms. Many chevies and fords learned to fear the 361

I need to see some pic's of the 63 before I share my opinion,,,,pleeeeeeeeeeze:grin:
