I have a 68 charger that I plan as a high quality driver/local car show restoration. I'm not planning on taking it to Pinehurst NC if you know what I mean.

1. I am planning on going to Carlisle pa next year. I was wondering about getting my bumpers exchanged while there. Any recommendation on doing it this way or not? I've never been to Carlisle btw but if I'm going why not save the shipping charges.

2. I have quite a few parts that are chrome without pitting but the chrome has that spider cracking look to it. I see them as pieces that would look great re-chromed. Doing it before pitting starts will be cheaper in the long run. Since they are relatively small shipping them to almost anywhere shouldn't be a problem. I live in SC. A local shop that specializes in Chebbies told me of a place in TN they use (S&H). Any companies you have experience with in chroming small (smaller then bumbers) parts?

Darren,
Just as a suggestion, you could take your bumpers to the April Spring Auto Fair in Charlotte and drop off with the guys at Tri City Plating and pick them back up at Carlisle in July. That way they can visually inspect them upon delivery and then you can inspect them upon delivery.
We have used Tri City as well as Advanced Plating. Both are in TN. Both do good work. Advance will do some pieces that Tri City will not do, but expect to pay for that service.
Sometimes, it is better to seek out either NOS or better used parts in the plating process. Especially on pot metal, the prep work is the costly area. Even on things like bumpers, look at the cores for deep gouges, twist in the metal or extensive pitting on the backside. These areas will affect the outcome of the work and the life expectancy of the piece.

Tricities has done several bumpers for me with great results. Give them a call they may have those charger bumpers in stock and will do an exchange and bring them to Charlotte.they are in elisabethton so only about two hour drive if you want to take them.

Tri city as great to work with. Another one that I’ve had good luck with for driver quality chrome is bumper boyz. They come the the Charlotte auto fair too and will do exchange on the bumpers if you call and have them bring them there

Tri city is definitely higher quality, I was just throwing that out as another option

I saw some video reviews of Bumper Boyz and they weren't flattering. I suggest if you do use them you don't have them ship to you, rather you go and inspect before purchase.

S&H Plating from Nashville will also be at the Charlotte show. They were a reference I was given by a local Chevi restoration garage. I called and talked to them on the phone. They do everything from bumpers to pot metal. No plastic. Anyone ever used them?

Forgot to mention there's a company in Greenwood
That has done some work for me. They will do pot metal as well. Can't recall the name but PM me and I'll try to find it for you if you are interested.

When you start to redoing pot metal, it is best to search out the very best cores that you can find. Even then, the cost to properly do pot metal so that all of the detail is not lost, you will be at least as costly or more than what most NOS pieces can be purchased for. I would suggest Advance Plating or Paul's for pot metal. For plastic plating, GCAR is the best source.

On pot metal I would talk to the guys at AIH in Dubuque Ia. They do great work!
