Rear Drums are loose how do these pads look for wear?

All in all I was pretty impressed with how well this last brake job lasted other than needing adjustment to take out the slack. I am going to replace everything just because I have never touched them since 2010 when I got the car lol. How do the pad look compared to new ones? do these have any life left? they look low.

Pull back the rubber seals on your wheel cylinders and check for wetness. If dry, you're good to go!

Did you fix the adjusters in place or did someone else do that? I don't like mine to self adjust either and had to do that with most of my wife's cars because she backs out of our 100+ foot long driveway doing 20 and nails the brakes right at the street making the rear brakes tight as a drum. Doesn't seen to bother her Durango but it would eat up the shoes on an 88 Shadow in short order until I did that lol. If you pull those shoes off, send them to me!

I haven't even looked at the other side yet will today, the drum was real loose so much so that's what prompted this whole exercise, when I stepped on the brakes and then left off i could hear a creaking noise and a bit of a clunk. I virtually was able ti wiggle the drum back and forth a bit to pull it off. So I think it just needed adjustment rather than replacement.

Hoping the driver side is the same. All the parts expect new drums were under $100, BUT I noticed the parts are smaller diameter than whats there and the new wheel cylinders are made in china! the ones there say MADE IN USA! right on them so if anything they will just get a rebuild kit and not replaced. springs look good too nice and thick.

My first car was a 66 Belvedere and it came with the complete self adjuster setup and so did my sister's 65 Mustang. Not sure when self adjusting brakes became standard but self adjusting brakes showed up in this country in 1925 but I do know that they were pretty much the norm on cars of the 60's. Bigman's brakes are supposed to be self adjusting but someone removed the setup and just put a spring across the star wheel to keep it from moving on it's own.....which is also what I do to mine

What Bigman has there on those brakes ,is a manual adjuster and spring. Notice how coarse the teeth are on the adjuster wheel. Auto adjust wheels are finer teeth. Don't know if there still available or not but we use to sell manual adjust change over kits for guys that wanted to get rid of auto adjust. Sold many over 30 yrs LOL.

Ah, I see the difference in the star teeth....yeah. Just always used the same star wheel that came from the factory self adjust on my junk and never had a problem with them staying put. To tell you the truth, I didn't know you could get a star wheel with the course teeth. Learn something new all the time!

Drivers side - Was more loose than the passenger side. Also notice the studs "L" the last wheel I have left hand studs on lol one left! I sent all the parts back today after looking at these in good shape. Still need to test drive it in a few.

Now if I could just get my master cylinder lid to stop LEAKING! god dam I have tried every thing short of just replacing it, which I have a new one on the bench, that dam thing tried silicone tried tightening the arm, made sure the surface was even and smooth last issue I have on this car stupid thing wont stop leaking even took some fluid out to keep the splash down.

That will work just fine. Less expensive that way too.

If the cover of the MC is leaking, then it is probably the cover warped. Otherewise, there is only one thing to do with an MC leak...REPLACE immediately. It could be on the vege or a real failure and will do so eventually if it is leaking. Put on the new one; your car is too nice to be cheap on the most critical operating parts.

Well may have the MC cover licked, had another whole set up and just used the new cover and two gaskets facing opposite directions along with taking some fluid out to about 40% fill both bowls seems to be working for now, weird part is the original cap seems to go on deep like it was going don over the edge too much. I noticed n the new set up the lid seemed loose.

I think the orig cap was pushing the gasket inwards, doubling up on the gaskets seems to have leveled it off so it is now like the new one but snug under the hold down arm.

Orig cap too deep? and warped? weird stuff from RSD never again will I buy from them.
