I have a 1962 Dodge Dart 330 with a slant 6 auto tranny.
I would like to swap the rear that is in the car now (non-posi)
for something with a little bit more guts. Anybody have any ideas
on which rear from which car will fit?
thanks,
Bill

If you got an 8 3/4, just swap out the center, or get a SURE GRIP to put in it.

If there is NO inspection cover on the housing, it's an 8.75

Hi Bill,
As long as nobody has changed the rear earlier on you car, then you have a 8 3/4 rear.
I sure do have that on my 62 Dart 440, which was a slant 6 car from the beginning.

rear end

Dude , much web ink has been written about rear end compatibility. Its all about spring perch width and axle lenghts.
The quick answer is loose the 62 housing, and put in a complete unit from a 65 to 67 B body. Gear ratio issues are another discussion.

will these bolt right up? how wide is the 62 and how wide is the 65-

They will be the same. If your car is original then it will have the tapered flange axle with the keyway.Easy to tell by the big nut on the axle end.In 65 they did away with that style.

I put a complete drum to drum 8-3/4 from a 65 B-body Plymouth in my 63 Sport Fury as I did not want to mess with the tapered axle and the big nut that has to come off just to get the drums off. So as was said you should try to find a drum to drum 8-3/4 from a 65 to 67 B-body and bolt it in. And of course if it is a posi or sure grip as Mopar calls it then all the better for you. Ron
