Im in process of welding everything back together on my 71 charger bee

the dilemma im having is the rear perch mount (picture attached)

The diagram says 57 3/16 (picture attached) but theres no way i can reach that measurement. Im close to 56 1/2. if i move the perch farther back id need to move all panels back then nothing would line up at all.

What i did was place the leaf spring underneath as if i were ready to mount it to see if the holes lined up properly. the mounting hole of the leaf spring sits right below the hole on the perch. Is that how it should sit? I didnt take pictures of that part before disassembling it.

what problems could arise? would that throw my wheelbase off? all my panels fit properly. the entire rear of the car is new panels cept for half of the rails at rear.

trunk closes properly. all lines are good. floors sit properly.

before i weld in the perch mount permanently i thought id better find out

thanks alot.

that would be great thx alot

can you take a picture of how the leaf spring sits below the perch if its vertical (if possible of course)

With no compression load on it, the spring front and rear hole center to center difference will be shorter than when loaded. Remember, the rear spring shackles account for and accomodate the length changes to the spring as it flexes from curved to flat. o find a similar car tocompae ot to... in person...

Heya thats what im trying to find out. I understand the spring will push outwards with load.

i wish i knew someone local with a charger that i could look at to compare

this is my first classic :)

if i push out the perch more it will stick further than the rails and this means moving the floors out to and everything else. there would be a half inch gap between my wheel wells and the floors

nothing would line up unless i modify the rear of the perch where it lines up with the back of the rails which is possible. thats why i was hoping someone could measure theirs center hole to center hole where each end of the leaf spring attaches to

I referenced these two holes the one marked is the rear hole 7.5 inches toward the rear of the car to the center of the perch bolt
Hope this helps

hmm what measurement is that. :p

looks like thats below the frame rail and since im using aftermarket rails the holes on them arent like original so i cant use those reference points.

i was looking for leaf spring measurements. lill take a picture tomorrow if i cant find something online

ok maybe this makes more sense :)

center of spring mount bolt to center of other side of the leaf spring bolt hole (on the top of the shackle)

see the pink arrows in the 3rd picture

thats where the leaf spring mounts to both ends

Ahh ok so 57" thanks ALOT

then its best i reach that measurement

luckily only half the rail is changed so the rear portion is still original.
