I know this has probably been addressed before, but rear main seal in my 67 satellite has been leaking for some time now. What is best [simplest] way to replace with engine in car, rope type or newer neoprene style. Can neoprene type be pushed in without loosening crank? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

This will be a 2 piece seal located in its own housing, so all you have to do is drop your oil pan, unbolt that housing, push the top half of the seal out and work the top half of the new one in, install the bottom half in the housing and put it all back together. There may be a specialty tool avaliable to ease the process. Good Luck!!!.

thanks for reply. I guess I thought this would be a rope type seal, but I just did what you said, and like you stated, its a neoprene 2 piece seal. I pulled the seal retainer cap down, and I can see the upper seal half still in there. Guess I'll try to pull [push] it out and push in new one. So far so good, but nothing ever goes smooth, so I'll see
