Hey guys I'm looking at replacing my rear main seal, but I've had one of the Mancini Racing kits with the cnc machined retaining block on backorder for over 2 months now and at this point just want to cancel my order and use a generic seal with the stock retaining block.

The problem is, I was told if I get the generic seals that the kit should also come with two straight pieces of rubber to seal each outer side of the retaining block (total 4 piece kit). But every one I'm seeing has the two half circle seals and two "L" shaped right-angle seals like the attached picture. Is this correct or does anyone have a suggestion on a kit to use?

I was told the new kits just tell you to fill the outer edges with silicone which I figure would eventually leak, so that's what I'm trying to avoid. Thanks ahead of time :headbang:

Have you tried Indy or 440 Source? They both sell the billet retainer kits also.

Didn't even think to look there, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they're in stock. I don't mind so much about getting the machined block since I figure if I have the right seals the stock one should work (?)

Now that my engine is almost ready I just don't want to be waiting another 2 months on Mancini :banghead:

I had a rear main leak on my blue Road Runner after the motor was rebuilt. I took it apart and put new stock style seals in it 4 times before trying the new kit. That took care of the problem for good, so the billet style is all I'm going to use in the future.

I just walked into Mancinis last week and bought one the billet ones, back order?

thanks for the advise hunt2elk, i too had the same prob with my newly rebuilt 383, rear seal started a small leak right from the start. i just hope i can find somebody here in CA that can fix it while still in the car

Well I just got off the phone with them and apparently backorders disappear from their system after 30 days and whoever was in charge of the order never renewed it when they came back in stock. Guess they'll finally be sending it out today. :icon_pray:

Thanks for the heads-up Matt!

Man that's gotta be fun lol

I went with the Viton rear seal and Silicone side strips from 440 source on the stroker. Ended up using the factory cap with them, don't leak a drop.
