Ok so after installing new window hardware in my restoration I found that my rear quarter window glass was not adjusting to the center point at maximum adjustment. The glass was canted in about 1/4” off. Using the FSM I tried all the adjustments but could not quite get there. This was on both drivers side a passenger side. This told me it was a systematic problem. Probably due to tolerances of the restoration parts. Since I threw away the original parts long before I was able to restore the windows I wasn’t able to refit them and confirm that it indeed was the new parts. However, no other changes were made so I have to believe that that’s what the problem was.
I have seen other threads complaining of the same issue with no clear solutions.
Here is my solution to the problem that I wanna share.
The problem is adjustment range. With two minor machining operations this problem got solved for me on both sides.
The first thing that needs to be done is to provide more range by modifying the in and out adjustment stud bracket. If you cut or grind it down about 1/4 this will give you more adjustment range by being able to kick in the angle by that much. The second is cleaning up the mating bracket to further allow the assembly to more tightly couple together inwards giving a bit more adjustment. See pictures attached.
