Rear Shock Length for S/S Springs ?

I am going to use the Mopar S/S springs on my '63 & '65 B-body builds. What rear shocks have any of you used, and what is the correct length, or what vehicle application will work properly for this set-up ? I know in the past, on some vehicles, I've had to raise the axle to meet the shock length bottom end, after bolting in the top end. Was hoping to find the correct length, so as to NOT limit the shocks travel. Thanks for any input, and guidance on this...

Exactly what I run on both my cars with S/S springs. No ride quality complaints at all ...

Raise the car up to let the diff hang free and then measure. I think mine was a bit over 23 ". I currently have a stock type shock from a c-body; an Imperial, I think. I have a set of QA1s on the shelf and they extend 23.870".

I'm sure they fit A bodies. Used them on my 65 Coronet no problems.

Super Stock springs have a lot of travel in them so you'll need a looong shock. C body shocks might work or pickup truck shocks. I used both back in the old days. These days I'd measure the lengths and then call up Calvert or someone like that and buy real race shocks but you can do whatever you want. First step is to use a tape measure and then go from there. You need to make sure the shock is short enough and not just long enough. You don't want to bottom out the shock on a bump since that will ruin them.

I never measured mine but I run the shock that are the long extending shocks sold by Mopar Performance some year back. They work fine with my 3400 lb SS springs I use. Ron

The old m/p shocks came in 2 flavors,stick and auto. I just replaced the stick shocks with calverts and the stick shocks extend noticeably easier than the cals. These are the single adjustable cals. The mps might have been going south although they never leaked a drop

Try Rockauto I believe they list the lengths of different model shocks. I seem to remember running 1973 dodge polara station wagon shocks on my 63 Plymouth with the SS springs.

Old school way was the 1970 Chrysler Imperial .Did that many times. Some shocks you will have to change out the upper bushing to fit the A or B body cars.
