How much travel should the rear shocks have? I’m showing about 2.5-3 inches, not sure that is enough.

What vehicle ? The shocks should not bottom out before the suspension bottoms or top out before the suspension reaches full extension. Is this a custom install ? There are books that show overall compression and extensions specs.

Just trying to figure out if I bought the wrong QA1 rear shocks.

Just get the 2 measurements of the full extended and compressed specs. Most suppliers can then choose the correct application for you as they have the spec charts on the shocks.

2.5-3 in compression? Or 2.5-3 total? Ladder bar /4 link will work with 5" total. Leafs like 7" total.

Interesting, Viking told me I was good with 3” travel at ride height. 4 link set up

Compression is 2.5-3, have xhd leaf springs.

Ok how do you get full extension with sliders. At launch the springs move into the arch from the horsepower and tire being compressed. So does the shock stop full extension on a hard launch or am I over thinking again. My thought is that if the shock is all out when giving a hard launch then the springs and power or doing what should be doing. But if the shock is to short and the launch is at its max will the body not be pulled down or cause some wheel hop from fighting the body and spring arch. Again I'm sure I'm over thinking or just not clued in enough

You are correct. If the shock isn't long enough it will limit rear end housing travel. This will unload the rear tires. This is why we run 7" travel shocks on my sons Cal Track turbo car. If you run sliders in the rear having the spring eye behind the mid point works for us.

Thanks for the info will work with longer shocks. As I'm collecting the parts to get rear end setup.

Had my buddy jounce the rear up/down and 2.5-3 inches of compression is plenty, so I’m calling it good.

Here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea of the swing verses slide.

You can see how the shackle starts it upward swing as the slider will continue to travel forward.

Here you can see that the shackle has gone past it's maximum travel and would be pulling the leaf back at this point. Your shocks need to be long enough so that they allow the leafs to go into their full arch.

Installing sliders increased my amount of rise from approx 3" to 4.5". You can see the shape of the leafs during rise.

Compression travel distance isn't the issue. It's rebound travel distance.

Thank you both I am going to connect up with Calvert for shocks. I feel this will be a hit and miss until I get it sailed in for both street and strip car.
