In the AM 8 Track configuration the wonderful folks at ChryCo, who were always trying to optimize our wonderful cars through modern engineering, discovered that you could get almost surround sound in the 2 Door cars with the contoured rear window and that config, by mounting one speaker horizontally and the other oriented vertically. The horizontal (to the back seat) speaker would direct the sound directly up and across the headliner toward to the front window and back at the occupants head on while they were hearing it coming across the roof area as well. The vertical (again to the back seat) speaker would direct the sound waves up at that wonderful rear window which would cause and undulating effect on the sound waves as it was redirected around the interior of the car, bouncing it off of the rear glass, around the side window, toward the front window, and back along the passengers side windows.
This was the actual start of surround sound technology.
