Rear window headliner teeth strip clip removal

Hi guys, I want to remove the 2 teeth strips along the sail panels that are held in place by these clips. I have an idea but not 100% sure.
I tried gently twisting them with vice grips and that didn't do much, then I reached into the underside and felt 2 little tabs, do you have to somehow squeeze the 2 smaller tabs together on the underside while pulling on the exposed part of the clip? I've tried to search for this but nothing comes up. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Grab them with a pair of pliers and turn them 90 degrees.
