I am mocking up my rear window trim. I have 3/8 dowels placed on the window flange to represent the thickness of the sealer. I've installed the trim, some with finesse and some with persuasion. My question is this, do the all look like crap with gaps or is there something that can be done to eliminate the gaps between the trim and body?
It's a 69 Bee and nothing has been repaired in that area. Any tips or tricks to get this to tighten up or sit better in the clips would be greatly appreciated.
No tips yet, mine is getting painted in Sept., so I may have the same questions when the trim goes back on. Rt.side first then left. Crossing my fingers, never took this trim off before.
You have to twist the moulding a little to put spring into it before install and hold the tension, you might mask tape the leading edge of paint while you do it..
Well I think it looks pretty good... No worse than my factory 68 which has never had the rear trim touched. Good ol' american assembly line fit & finish lol
Edit: I was looking at Oldbee's pics thought they were the OPs.. Mine looks pretty much the way oldbee's does, your gap does look slightly bigger...
Short of buying NOS trim and using new clips its a crap shoot. Good you are mocking it before so as to give some thought of what to do. Oldbee has a never touched trim and it fits great except for the lower left corner. Same as mine dammit. patience and use tape after paint is a must. Some say to strech the clips for a easier install, Dont do it, you want them as tight as possible. Just got done with this and its a PITA. Just wait till you get to the WS trim, that takes some real creative thinking and the patience of a Saint. And as said the OEM quality was not real good but we strive to do better. Good luck ...
