You will only want to do it once, so figure it is going to be a complete rebuild. The main thing going against you is that it is a 318 Poly. It is old and not popular enough for the parts price to be lower. At least Egge sells a rebuild kit for it for $1860, and you still need some extra parts not included in the kit. My labor would be about $1800 with exhaust seats and floating rods (pin bushings), and including the parts, I would estimate $3600 to $4000 as a guess.

My buddy stroked his to a 390.Complete rebuild with the $800 CPPA 4 barrel intake and a good cam ran him about $6000. You would swear it has a 440 in it.

Talk to Gary Pavlovich - he is the guru on these engines and can provide all the advice/parts you need, including custom camshafts. Mine is currently being re-built - I have the Weiand 7503 manifold but it's not that good apparently, especially for low down torque. I was going down the stroker route at one stage but the extra complexities of custom pistons put me off - if I was in the US I would have though. Search for Gary on google and you should get an email address - if not I can pm you, he's very helpful and wouldn't mind I'm sure.

I had Gary build mine :) He is a couple hours drive away and did a great job on the engine and part recommendations.

My kit is $928.56, but you would still need valves, springs, pushrods, oil screen. Still, my kit price would be under the Egge price.
