I bought a '95 Dakota and both of the wipers arms were stripped on the stub shaft. So I bought a replacement from Auto Joke(oops, should be Zone), and replaced the drivers side. They only had one. So I bought a second at Advance. (I really am getting to the point) The passenger side had a spring that was too tight, and it pulled the arm up at the pivot, so it didn't sit flat on the stub. Stripped instantly. So I replaced it. Same thing. Sooo, my solution?
A Dremel tool and an aluminum pop(soda) can. I cut a strip off the can, tucked it in the wiper arm, and tapped it back on. On high, it wasn't tight enough. Actually caught the new, working wiper arm on the driver's side, and broke the end of it off.:angryfire:
Sooo, cut a longer strip, wrapped it in there, and all is good. So now I am back to the original old, stripped wipers and they work wonderfully.
So, is that creative, or pure redneck? No aluminum is visible, and there is no blue silicon or duct tape involved at all!

The previous owner just stuck duct tape over the stubs. Then slammed on the wiper arms. Probably worked well until the first rain came in!

good for you buddie. you had to do, what you had to do to get home. gfyb. i like that.

No duct tape?? You haven't been watching the Red Green show.

I say good thinking!

Sounds like it worked! Thats what counts and duct tape good for many things also, this i found out the first year of kids and toys breaking, They don't seem to mind as long as it works again.

That's Redneck tech & creative...LOL... how did the wiper "stubs" get stripped in the 1st place? that's what I wonder. It worked & no sign of a Redneck repair so it's all good. Do what you need to, to your own car, if it's a customers car it's a different story, anything is better than Duct Tape...

The stubs themselves don't strip. It is the inside of the wiper arms. The splines are very shallow and not up for much of a beating!

I always use a small centerpunch on them, 4 or 5 times around the inside of the wiper arm and re-install. Works great.

Thats called "Chicago" ing the hole.
You can do the same thing on old worn out electric motor end bells where the bearing fits. When they get worn out, hit the inner housing bore with a center punch several times around the inside dia, and presto!!!! It's fixed....LOL:violent-smiley-100:

I never thought of that. Good idea. Maybe if the high dollar fix I used fails... Lol
