I have a door mirror that got knocked/broken off.my 65 coronet...I realized the only way to get it out was to unatt
atch the three wires and pull them out through the small hole in the door...I had a friend with a replacement ..from a 69 dart and it looks identical except the wires are a little longer and the toggle/joystick is different...but here's my problem:

I cannot remove the 3 wires from the joystick side in order to feed them through the door...it's like they're permanently pressed in?.....do I simply need a earlier model mirror that allows me to disassemble the toggle? Otherwise the feed hole through the door is simply too small for anything other than the 3 wires....please help! Thanks

You will need an earlier model mirror. The a body doors have a bigger hole for the completed assembly to pass through

With care, you can detach the cables from the joystick using a small screwdriver. Keep track of positioning of left/right and up/down cables. Then a small vice grips can be used to squeeze together again.

Another option is to drill the cable hole bigger, of course making sure the mirror base rubber gasket will cover it AND the mounting nut has enough sheet metal around it to hold the mirror in place from underneath. Having upgraded mirrors to the adjustable rallye style I know it can be done. It's a little nerve-wracking to drill into your door but test fit on a piece of cardboard to calm your nerves.

Careful if you bend the tabs holding the wires on the joystick as its pot metal, and they can snap off very easily!

Just for comparison, here's the hole size on a 1970 road runner - the remote goes through in one piece.
