Any guidance on how to remove the door panels on a 68 Coronet? My passenger door isn't opening from the inside so I need to get in there.

I can see that the window crank needs to be pulled but don't see where I'd detach the armrest.

Another question is, can I get away with not removing the hard plastic and only pulling the soft part of the panel?

Any help is appreciated.

The armrests are attached with two screws up from the bottom at a 45 degree angle.
Next remove the window cranks then the inside door release handle has to come off.
All that’s left after that is to start at the bottom corner of the panel and start popping the clips loose with a door panel clip release tool. The top of the panel slips up into the chrome trim piece at the top.

Armrest has Phillips screws from the bottom entering the door at a 45 degree angle..... If the door doesn't open your gonna have a tough time removing the door panel, I suggest removing the front seat so you have room, four nuts from the bottom of the car, very easy to remove and worth the effort....

The door panel comes off in one piece, if you separate the vinyl from the pressed board backing you accomplish nothing but making more work for yourself repairing the door panel...

The panel is attached with spring clips around the perimeter & the top is slipped into the trim channel.. It's hard enough to remove a 50+ year old door panel when the door is open, with the door latched shut the best advise is to just go slow & be gentle.. A tool like the one shown below is what you want... Slip it in the gap between the panel & the door, slide it till you hit a clip then position the tool so the clip is in the notch & po the clip out... The move to the next one....

awesome and thank you. The door opens just fine...from the outside, so no issues there. it appears that the mechanism for the interior door handle is either detached or broken so that's what I need to get to.

Probably just a broken clip on the linkage from the inner handle to the latch.
