Removing factory AC components

Hi - got some great advice here recently on my cooling system so thought I'd try another subject. I acquired my 66 Coronet station wagon in the fall. It is a factory AC car but all of the under hood components are long gone. That being said can I just remove all of the under dash components as well? Having functional AC would be great but that is low on the priority list right now and I was thinking when I get to this I would just go with a Vintage Air kit anyway rather than try to hunt down all the original components. Just curious if there are any things I should avoid or be aware of as I think about removing the remaining AC components. Thanks in advance!!

The best thing I can suggest is to get your Bible (manaul) out. Will be a big help to you.

You can remove it but you will have a big hole where the fan motor comes through the firewall to patch.

When you remove the unit you also lose the heating unit and have no defrost option. This could be a big factor in cooler and colder weather. I've had mine removed for several years and I'm in the process of getting it all cleaned up and put back together.

Yeah, I have no heat or defrost now so not a big loss. Down the road I’ll replace, get this all fixed. Just seems like the under dash stuff in there now is in the way since it isn’t functional.

I would recommend you keep the OEM dash A/C outlets for the future and pull the rest but, save it .

I vote to leave it in. I had a 67 Coronet back when I was younger, and it had the coldest AC that I have ever experienced. People in the back seat would constantly ask me to turn the AC down, it was too cold. There would be frost on the metal vents. I'm thinking about putting factory air in my 383-4 speed 67 Coronet.

I'd source a new heater core, "newer" a/c compressor, gaskets from DMT, leave everything there. IMOP

My car originally cam with A/C. So, I try to keep what it came with, just modernized it

You could block the holes with the Vintage Air sourced plate #644116
