I have a 1970 GTX and I'm trying to remove the pistol grip Hurst shifter so I can pull the motor and tranny. Any help would be appriciated. Thank you.

Stick either steel shim stock or 2 feeler gauges (one on each side) where shifter goes into shifter mechanism while pulling upward on shifter handle.

Between which piece? There’s the shifter, then a shim, then the outer frame.

Thank you all. I will give it a try.

That did it. I was putting the feeler gauge in the wrong location. Thank you all for the help.

If it hasn't been off for awhile, it may be a bugger to get the feeler gauge down where it needs to be. Spray some penetrating oil in first as mentioned above and rock the feeler back and forth till it goes in.
