Is there a trick to removing the lower control arm pivot shaft? Saw there is a tool made for it, do i have to buy another speciality tool for this?

No i just press the shaft out. Once out you have the metal sleeves to deal with. I find the right size washers to fit, and weld the washers to the sleeve on the pivot shaft and the sleeve in the lca. Then i set them up in the press again.

Ok, i am puzzled, had the pins pressed out, but there are no metal sleeves, just the rubber bushing that was installed and that was holding the pin in place. am i missing something here or are 73 Roadrunner designed differently than eariler years or body styles?

There is an inner and outer sleeve on the pin, rubber is in the middle of the two. You need to get a washer and weld it to the outer sleeve that may still be in the control arm and use a dremel to make a slice on the inner shell still stuck on the pin, then hit it with a chisel and it'll come right off. Post pics of what you have so we are on the same page and can get you the correct advise.

Holy crap, looked at that article, now i see what you are talking about. So, where do i get new sleeves? I have new urthane bushings, but that article recommends rubber instead, is this true for holding the pin in place?

Edit: I read a thread on forabodies forum, and this seems to be a big debate, rubber vs urthane vs polygraphite!

STOP! I didnt realize you had urethane bushings. In this case, you press the pivot pin out of the lower control arm and clean all the left over rubber off. The existing inner and outer metal parts still in the lower control arm and on the pivot pin are used with the urethane bushings.

Yep, got it covered, original outer sleeves were left in the control arm,and the inner sleeves on the pin are in good shape and in tact. Its all good now!

Here is what N.O.S. look like.

The service manual covers this topic pretty well. If you don't have a service manual you really should buy one.

I bought a service manual way before i started on the car and i have read most everything, but when they show all these speciality tools, and you have no way to fab or find them, its just easier to take to the local shop and have them pressed out as wekk as ask the experts here, because not everything is always clear cut in service manuals.
