Hey Guys, once again I need some help. Not sure how to fix these trim pieces for my Plymouth. Not even sure what they are made of. I think it is pot metal? Can I clean it and paint it or does it need to be replated or something? Also, any suggestions on how to fix the studs? From what I found on the forums it sounds like I should drill and tap it. Is that the right approach? Thanks!

You should be able to repair that part. I am guessing its aluminum, even if its pot metal, should be able to drill and tap it and put in a new post. The metal itself may be anodized if its aluminum and if that is so, you can remove the anodizing and it should polish up real nice.

That part is pot metal and you can use a Muggy weld rod with a propane torch to "weld" the stud back on. You can prep it for paint and paint it, but trying to polish pot metal is like trying to polish a runny turd.

I stand corrected, and learned something new, it looks like aluminum because of the luster.

You could try polishing it with some compound. They are chrome plated. When the chrome is gone, is when it won't polish. Those look like they would clean up.
