repairing radio

I just got a 69 Roadrunner with all matching numbers. I am needing to have the radio repaired, I am wondering should I have it repaired back to am only or would it hurt to have to repaired to do am/fm. I am new to all of this so any help I would greatly appreciate!!

My suggestion would be to wrap up the radio put it away and get a modern radio from classic industries with all the bells and whistles fits your dash no alterations you can even hook up your ipod, mp3 etc. purchase a separate c d player for the trunk

Ok because I found the company turnswitch.com, and they can take your thumbwheel and make to where it will be am/fm add and iPod, mp3, cd changer, bluetooth. So you would have the stock radio modernized. I am just wondering if it would affect the car since all of the numbers match and everything is original.

A converted am radio looks original, the preset controls remain operational. So unless you told anyone, the radio would appear stock for your car. Check out http://www.woodradios.com
I have seen and heard the conversions done by Larry, and the sound is clean and powerful. The converted radios are approved to maintain collector car status

If your looking for a concourse level restoration reach out to Len at CGR. I've know Len for 25+ years and he's the best of the best when it comes to restoring old components. He has been into antique radios for as long as I've know him and when he finally quit his day job as a senior design engineer he realized that there was more demand for Antique car radios that table top radios.

The only future potential car buyer who would object, would be the one looking for the 100% original concourse type restoration. The vast majority would be perfectly happy with (likely prefer) a factory radio that also played FM along with the option of various other formats ( MP3, phone, etc.)

When I did restoration on 72 Challenger I converted the original am to am/fm. I used Vintage Auto Radio out of Mt. Juliet TN. They did a very nice job and I will do the same thing on my next am radio.
