I believe my rear main seal is leaking in my Super Bee's 440. Can anyone refer me to useful info. on the web, details in a thread on this site, or outline steps to replace it?

Someone told me I could get at it by removing the oil pan. Is that right? I don't want to take my tranny and bellhousing off, if at all possible.

I appreciate the help!

drop centerlink, remove oil pan, remove rear main seal retainer, remove seal... reverse steps.

That's pretty much it. But the more stuff you have out of the way the easier it will be to change it

I've also always run a bead of silicone over the vertical seals. It's a biatch to slide the retainer and end seals in but lube them up well and it usually goes OK with a bit of force.
