Guys,

How are you guys restoring your dash ashtrays? Mine is rusted and the exterior is scuffed uThoughts?p.

cool.

What paint do you use to paint the inside of the ash tray?

There are some good paints out there that match a plated finish. I think even Krylon has a color called metallic or something like that. Should be good enough for an ashtray, that is if you don't use it as intended!

Good call meep......I just used a Valspar aluminum high temp engine paint to paint the insides of my front turn signal housings. Pretty dang close match the plating in the ashtray, plus it would put up with a cigarette being punched out on it.

I took mine apart and had it replated. The lighter was still very shiny so a little polishing is all that took. The only reason I replated it is because I was taking other things over to get replated anyway otherwise for an ash tray a rattle can would have sufficed.

I agree, steel wool primer and paint, I did have some pics of the ash tray separate someplace, but i cant find them, only picture would be is like Marla's, showing the outside, I didn't paint the inside, I hate to admit it but i still haven't kicked the cigar smoking yet so i do use it.. My car no trailer queen, and using the ash tray didn't think it would be worth it to paint the inside, so i just cleaned it up good.
