I purchased a rebuild 360 long block about 7 years ago - meant for installation and use in my 1969 barracuda. The motor was installed in the car and no further work done (accessories and wiring not installed) -due to my extensive work related travel. In those days, I was a contractor field engineer for US State Dept., doing electrical work at Embassies everywhere. What time I did have at home was spent going to all the metal shows. Now that Im finally off the road and back home in WA, I am resuming work that was started years ago. The question is, what will I have to do with a motor that sat for years? (the car) was stored outside for about 5 of these years in a driveway, it was not filled with fluids.
Thanks for advise-

I would almost say a complete rebuild is due or at least complete teardown...reason I say is due to it being dry and being outside, condensation could have wreaked havoc inside the engine.

X2

Especially with the amount of moisture in the air out here in Washington. I'd be surprised if you didn't have rust on some of the cylinder walls, unless the engine was stored with the rocker arms removed (so all valves are closed.)

Yup. Assuming the rocker gear was all installed, there will have been some valves held open all this time. There will more than likely be some rust in those cylinders, and potentially lots more parts than that

Thanks for comments. I knew that it would require teardown, and clean up at the least. I was just trying to kid myself that it was ok. Removed intake, rocker arm covers, and discovered evidence that moisture and critters have been here. 69barracuda motor.jpg
