vintage retro battery in challenger is dead as a door nail
put it on a slow charge overnight most likely suflated
like to have this battery reconditioned or I might gut it and just use the case
any thoughts

looks like the trunk light was on all winter (or at least till battery died :( )

I have one in my 66 hemi Charger and I'm impressed. For one it say for probably two years while I was screwing around with the car, and twice one of my headlight motors was not adjusted properly so it sucked the guts out of the battery. I just added some water and charged it up and it's been fine for a year. It's a MoPar one with the red caps. Is there only one manufacturer for these? Because I'd like to get another one for my 69 RR.

I have the yellow caps I thought they were sealed batteries

I'm not sure where you got yours but most have a 2 year warranty. Hope you kept the receipt.

Humm, my Yellow cap batteries are sealed.

Sometimes it just takes time. I've had batteries on charge for two or three days with no results, until the sulfates start to break down and the amp meter starts to climb on the battery charger. Pay attention, if the battery starts to get hot (125 degrees or higher) stop and let it cool down before continuing.

if a wet cell battery is not at full charge, it will freeze if exposed. not sure that's your situation however; when it freezes the plates warp. when the plates warp, it's done. rebuilding batteries is a messy job and best left to those with facilities and permits. you can get fresh retro batteries from Classic and others...

It came with the car so don't know the source or history. I brought it in to work one day to charge and the electrical guy next door unscrewed a cap to check the water. He's old enough to have installed these when they were new and hasn't kept up with the trends in the car hobby, so no preconceived notions I guess! They seemed a bit tight, almost as if they were glued on, but a little force managed to pop them loose and unscrew as usual. I proceeded to unscrew the rest and add DI water and put it on the charger (bad pun).

I was able unscrew the caps on my battery one cell was completely dry I filled been on charge but that one cell doesnt bubble
I am going to try and add some batter acid to it today and see what happens.
now that I know I can open the battery I might just drain it into bucket cut out the bottom and gut if if this cell doesnt come back
