Anyone attempt to retrofit the flip open fuel cap from 67 GTX to a 66 Satellite? If so, a bolt on or sheet metal modifications necessary?
Thanks in advance to any who reply.

I think there's a nylon spacer.

There's a guy on the A body side that makes and sells them.

GTX gas cap change

I'm wondering how it is to pump gas into the GTX cap, I have issues pumping gas into my 66 Sat, the gas runs down the side of the car almost as fast as it goes into the tank...a real pisser. Then again I'm in California with all it's enviromentally friendly nozzles, has anyone who changed to the GTX flip gas cap pumped gas sucessfully in California?

Thanks everyone, looks like the kit is the way to go.
Very nice blue Belvedere, had a look at your page you linked, very nice job. (68sportsatelliteragtop)

I also am in the great state of Cal, with the same problem with the pump nozzles and the verticle filler opening on the side of the car. I look at it this way, I'll be wiping the spilled gas off something I like the looks of when I install the GTX cap assembly.

I have the same problem with my gtx...Gas dribbles down the side of the quarter panel...F***ing sucks...I have to be like an old man with a model a ford and use the squgee to wipe her down...

ditto with My 67...slow flow....spilled out on hard right turn

So let me get this straight...

The great state of California, in their infinite wisdom, have installed hoses that trap vapors but allow the gas to spill all over the ground???

Yeah, THAT makes sense :rolling:

Hawk, don't get me started on the great state of California and their "infinite wisdom". I'm a shop owner and working smog tech, doing business under the all seeing eye of the BAR (bureau of auto repair) it's a real trip. I've been told the california air resources board meets every tuesday in their smoke filled room to think up new ways to clean the air and more rules to enforce. And all the while gasoline is dribbling down the sides of plymouths, go figure!

I have a flip cap on my 66 HEMI Bel but I didn't put it on. I suspect it was done in the 70's when the car was repainted and all the trim removed and holes filled. It looks like a pretty simple bolt on.

If it was up to CARB we would all be driving Priuses.

Can you stuff a BB Mopar into a Prius? I saw a Hemi with a shaker hood in a Mercedes once.
Think I'll go for the pit stop cap. Thanks to all for the encouragement and the chance to have a little fun ranting.
My first Satellite was a 66 yellow with painted black top, 383 4 speed 323 suregrip, it was just 3 years old when I gave $1800 for it. This was the car my wife of forty years and I dated in, lots of cruising and street racing.
Now forty years later I just bought another 66 Satellite, Red, 273 4bl, A/t. It's a bit of a project but a very good deal at $6500. Man times have changed. I had really wanted another 383 car, but considering it's going to be just a cruiser, going to add a/c, the 273 is a healthy and very snappy motor, why not keep it. The car has been modified somewhat, small cam in the motor, Offy intake and Speed Demon carb, Mopar electronic ignition, nice front disc brake conversion, Ford 9" rear end with 3:40 gears, new headliner, carpet and glass. Ordered all new seat covers this week and a small list of little things that make the details. I"ve done paint and body for years and will repaint the original red, replate the bumpers and refurbish all the exterior trim, it's all there and not bad shape, just showing it's 45 years. Anyway, I havent done a project car in over 20 years, this is going to be a trip down memory lane, looking forward to a great time, and so nice to find a forum to enjoy as well.

Believe me, I thought about it!!! When those things had the "access OK" stickers, which meant they can use the car pool lane during commute hours, I thought it would be fun to grab one of those pieces of rolling toxic waste and stuff a big block in it with a tube chassis. Then LEGALLY hit the commute lane through Berkeley and do chirpies as the traffic oscillates from stop to go. Metering lights on the on ramps would be especially fun

Just remember, you will have to make your own seal between the back plate and the tube where the screw in cap used to go. Otherwise, instead of running down the quarterpanel, the gas will collect behind the back plate and eat your paint away.

I was looking at a kit that comes with a reproduction cap assembly, bracket, trim plate and the seal, I just hope the quality of the cap is good.
