need to do some touchup on my car and it was painted a few years back with rm base coat clear coat , and now all you can get here is water bourne paint,, i have some paint left over but no reducer, does anyone know where i can get somw reducer for the old non water bourne paint or if the new reducer will mixx???

Waterbourne reducer will NOT mix. Use only the exact RM reducer.

Order the correct catalyst/reducer through the internet or have a US-based (non-california) friend go buy you what you need and ship it to you categorized as a "cleaner". Or take a road trip across the border.

If you have a Canadian Tire outlet in Terrace, check them out. They may not stock it but can probably order it in for you. They have it in their Langley store.

now im confused, i got a hold of the rm rep here and he said that the reducer was unchanged, and will work, does he know what hes taking about???

The guy I trust was adamant that the newer reducers don't work with the older paints. He never tried it, but I would make sense.

A reducer is a solvent "cocktail" that is specific with the paint type. Mixing a waterbourne reducer which likely has a different cocktail mix could have odd results, especially if the reducer is a part of the catalyst action.

It might be better to talk to an old school guy who used the old paint in the past rather than a salesman. just a thought.

Don't do it. As RGAZ said. Get the old solvent based paint reducer for your application/paint. there are solvents in waterborne but the chemistry and mix ratios are way different. I cant imagine if you ask a couple of the older shops around that someone will have a quart they can "sneak" you.

ok got a little more info, my paint is basf/rm diamont polyester basecoat and the reducer the rep sent me is basf/rm ur50 reducer medium temp reducer. i looked on basf website and from what i gather diamont is polyester basecoat , and the reducer they list is the ur 50 for that paint, can someone on the usa side confirm this? as this paint is still axccesible and used over there... maybe he was confused or i heard him worng... i dont thing the reducers are the same
