RMS leak and UV dye

I thought my RMS leak was finally fixed, but was still having oil dripping from the bottom of the transmission housing. I wanted to be sure it wasn't coming from the valve covers/oil sender/rear of the valley pan etc... I added a bottle of UV dye and I found (lots of) oil around the top and bottom of the inspection plate. There was also oil on the starter inside the housing.
Would an RMS leak come from the top of the housing, or would it be from the inside bottom? Or both?

Leaks can be from many different things. The most important thing I believe is to make sure all surfaces are flat and bolts have not been overt torqued. Next issue make sure the seal or gasket has been installed correctly. One of the biggest problems I run into is to much gasket sealer or wrong type for the job your doing. If you look at your service manual it will even give you a torque pattern to follow which in most cases NEVER gets followed. If all this has been followed and it still leaks stop blaming the gasket or seal. It might be crank case pressure out of hand. Good luck chasing oil leaks suck.
 
Seepage isnt leakage, especially in something gasketed. You can prolly detect that dye on your fingers still from when you put it in the motor, lol. Just sayin, and a car manufacturer would tell you the same thing.
 
If I ever used that stuff in any of my heaps it would look like a damn murder scene.
 
Really want to see the leak? Get a cell phone bore scope for $20. Get it up between the crank flange and the block. Otherwise it's just a guess where it is coming from. Seal, seal retainer, pan, cam plug, galley plug. With the crank and converter rotation oil slings everywhere. However it always slings outward. So a retainer, pan, or plug leak will never wet the inside of the crank flange at the seal area.

It did look like a murder scene under there! The transmission pan is clearly being sprayed with the fine mist of oil as it leaves the housing while driving.

I do have a couple of scopes and will take a look. Should be interesting holding the scope, the phone and the blacklight underneath the car...
I've never seen the inside of this so wish me luck!
