I have a question regarding rockers. I got a great set of Isky iron rockers of feebay a while back. I went ahead and got a pair of good hardened chrome shafts from Mancini. Here's my question. Will I be better off eliminating the springs on the Isky setup and using spacers and shims? I know I need to run shims between the rockers and hold downs (I got a nice set of billet aluminum hold downs) to keep the rockers from grinding into the hold downs. It seem to me the spacers would be a better way to go than the springs. Oh and this is on my 383 build. Thanks.

I have seen the high mileage iron rockers wear heavily on the thrust tab of the shaft hold down and you know that is due to the spring. But with the aluminum blocks and a thrust washer you should be OK. I would say the spacers will be better overall as long as the clearance isn't excessive. .010" total side to side should be a good number.

Thanks. That's what I was thinkin. Since the spacers and shims aren't too costly, I think that's what I'll do.

I agree, with spacers you set the clearance at which point they float freely with very little friction.
