Hi

I have a new set of H/S rockers and when I install them it's got no more than 5 thou side clearance, I called Randy and he said anywhere from .015 to .020 is fine. H/S supplies .047 shims. According to my calcs if I find a .040 it would fix the issue. I did a search and found .015 from Mopar and Mancini, Hughes, Anyone else selling .040??

I was even contemplating to lightly file down the wide center spacer to give it an extra .010 but I wanted to ask 1st, what y'all think?

Thanks

The difference in expansion over 200* F [ cold to hot engine ] of the iron head & a 1.25" wide alum rocker is....drum role.... about 1.8 thousandths of an inch. So even with 5 thou you have plenty & 0.010" would be more than enough.

I think there are too many variables in the assembly/ math to cut it that close.

Do these happen to be trickflow heads

Post #4. If the OP has checked all the rockers & found 5 thou clearance, then there are no variables....

Personally I'd feel better with .030 than I would with .005.... Variable... How about the ability to shift the rocker hold downs probably .020 each... I've seen instances where the stand is wider then the hold down, if you miss that it can bite you...
Shims are available, they are cheap, if he ordered them yesterday after I posted the link he'd have them tomorrow morning...

The variables I'm talking about are the expansion characteristics of aluminum, cast iron, steel, together with the different sizes of parts.
Why take a chance? Give her .060, as they say in the steel mill.

i have cut down the spacers before to get more clearance.
Thanks Dwayne, That's exactly what I'm doing, Giving it a .015 Shave, I couldn't even get the .005 thou feeler in there before and Randy @ H/S said around .016 to .020 is ideal. One thing I can say is the only rockers that went on really well minimum fussing and really spot on in contact pattern is the Old Crane Gold rockers, too bad they aren't produced anymore. If you're working on bench it's fine you can grind pedestals for Comp rockers, trim spacers on H/S and Mancini but doing it on the car is not that easy. I had a set of Comp and as Mr Porter said the 4 corners need to get trimmed for those wider bodies to fit on. So I got a set of these H/S specifically for TF heads. Could have went with Mancini as well. Thanks for your input as usual it's very much appreciated
