what is a 69 date code alt. core worth,,,and they can be changed to a 60 amp when rebuilt from a lower number??Thanks

Can't help you on the value, but my alternator guy replaces the stock 37 armature with a 60 amp version when he rebuilds mine.

Factory/stock case can be reused with upgraded inners. Getting the parts can be made by yourself. Is what performance manufacturers do. Maybe no dated coded but same factory castings and cases.

The 37 amp unit can be up graded to the 60 amp unit by replacing BOTH THE STATOR AND DIODES from the larger ampacity parts. Just changing the stator without replacing the diodes (3 positive and 3 negative) will result in premature diode failure. The rotor is the same. The voltage regulator can be EITHER type (mechanical vs electronic type) depending on the original wiring configuration and the owners degree of origionality preferences. ........BTW...I rebuild my units myself.....

Bob, Not sure a difference in diodes, I think the higher rated were used, at least from part numbers in the parts book. The 100 amp may have had different diodes. There are different rotors too not just field windings.

Interesting stuff is I have got more damaged rotors than any stator or diodes.

The 60 amp rotors have more wire in them, you can see the additional diameter when you look in them. I had a ton of damaged rotors back in the day, high rpms break or short the wire internally and they are done. I always thought all round back diodes are the same but could be wrong. Obviously the 70-71 date coded never sand or bead blasted cores with the 37 amp part number are worth a few bucks.
