The 37 amp unit can be up graded to the 60 amp unit by replacing BOTH THE STATOR AND DIODES from the larger ampacity parts. Just changing the stator without replacing the diodes (3 positive and 3 negative) will result in premature diode failure. The rotor is the same. The voltage regulator can be EITHER type (mechanical vs electronic type) depending on the original wiring configuration and the owners degree of origionality preferences. ........BTW...I rebuild my units myself.....Can't help you on the value, but my alternator guy replaces the stock 37 armature with a 60 amp version when he rebuilds mine.
