RRDon reported in 2020 that he was searching for the Road Runner he previously owned. That thread is now locked for replies (??), but I just read it. I noted one response indicating that after so much time it wasn't likely to be found, no records, etc., and that the authorities probably couldn't help. Just wanted to tell a story, not about a Mopar, but an Austin-Healey. I am the keeper of the BJ8 Model for the Austin-Healey. In 2006, I received an inquiry from a former owner who said his car had been stolen from him in 1970 in Philadelphia, while he was a student there. He quoted the VIN and still had his title and keys to the car. I had no record of it at that time, but entered it into the registry with the information and details he provided. In 2012, I saw that same car come up for sale by a dealer in California (with the claim: "Same owner last 40 years"). I notified the former owner and he took it from there to get the car back from that dealer (it cost him only a $600 "storage" fee). He had the help of a relative who had access to the National Crime Information Computer which made it possible to obtain the proof of a police report from 1970. So, maybe the old records aren't always deleted.

When I read about folks trying to get their old Mopar back, it makes me very glad that the only time I ever considered selling my Charger was during the first gas "crisis" in 1973. I'm glad I resisted the temptation.

Never say never. What's interesting in this scenario is that the original owner still had the title, and the fact the car was stolen created a record outside the mainstream. Then the human network enters the process. I recovered two "back in the day" cars, one I owned previously, one I didn't, but wanted to. Human contact made it happen in both cases. I'm a retired attorney, and I was wired for digging around for evidence and missing pieces in a puzzle.
