Hi all

Can someone confirm whether it's necessary to use this type of spring hanger to fit super stock springs to a 63 B-body?

http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/manciniracing20.html

And if so, why?

We currently have s/s springs fitted to our 63 Polara but dont have this type of hanger. I havent looked at them myself for a while but my brother had a look last nite and said they are the same as the hanger on our 69 Sport Satellite :icon_scratch:

Thanks!

SS springs fit the '63 Dodge perfectly with the stock front hangers.

No need for aftermarket but those look like they have an extra hole for adjustment.

The '63's have the same spring length as the later A-bodies (20" front segment).

I have #456 and #457 SS springs in my '63 and they bolted into the stock hangers.

I think what they're saying is that they have the extra holes drilled so you can lower your rear end a bit. You can achieve the same thing by reversing your stock hangers and switching them side to side. You get about 1 1/2" lower.

You dont need those front hangers, the stock one will do. I put SS spring on my 62 Savoy which is the same as the 63's . You will need to get longer shocks though. I used stock 1500 dodge Ram ones from 2003 and they fit perfect but you have to press out the rubber from your old shocks in the bottom mount and press in to your new shocks. the lower mount on the bottom is larger than the stock Ram ones.

I was told That the front spring segment was shorter and that in order not to move the rear end forward in my 64 Belvedere, that I needed the extra long hanger. Can I just use the stock ones?

You will need the longer hangers for a '64. I did it last May. I also found that the mounting holes for the front spring eyes were 3/4" too far back - eliminating my needed driveshaft play. I had to drill new holes to get rid of the driveshaft vibration. But yours may very well work just fine with the holes the way they are - it can vary from car to car.

Yes, '64-up is different. You will need longer front hangers with SS springs.

Good to know I didn't spend the cash for nothing then....Thanks.

You can also use shocks off of the following years and models.

Chrysler Town & Country 1971 through 1973
Plymouth Fury station wagon 1970 through 1972

Yes, or you can use Mr. Gasket shock extenders part # MRG1288 available through Manicini Racing with stock shocks to get the length you need.
