Saw Sam and the "Outlaws of Comedy" twice.. First time we were practically on the stage, the edge of our table was literally touching the stage.... After the show we wound up partying with Sam for about an hour, Unfortunately it was a Wednesday and most of us had to work the next day.... And the show was in Tahoe about 120 miles from home..

My mom's birthday today too.
Sam was killed just a few miles (5?) from my house by a drunk juvenile on the wrong side of the road (AZ95, from Needles, on the way to Laughlin for a show). Kid got a light slap on the wrist. Sam's wife of a couple weeks was with him, she survived.

He did not. Head struck the windshield, chest crushed by the steering wheel. Got out of the car, sat on the curb, said "I don't want to die" twice........ and died. (Of internal injuries/rupture).
